Classified as a national marine park, Nosy Tanikely is the ideal spot for snorkelling and beginner dives. Its shallow waters (5-18 m) are home to green turtles, clownfish, groupers and schools of multicoloured fish. The marine life here is particularly accustomed to human presence, offering unforgettable encounters.
The archipelago of Mitsio, located to the north of Nosy Be, offers spectacular diving on vertiginous drop-offs and basalt formations. Reef sharks, manta rays, giant barracudas and sometimes even whale sharks are regularly seen between October and December.
Just a few minutes by boat from Andilana, Nosy Sakatia offers accessible diving with a rich biodiversity. Hawksbill turtles are a common sight, as are seahorses, colourful nudibranchs and an impressive variety of hard and soft corals.
This legendary site off Nosy Be is renowned for its encounters with large pelagic fish. Grey sharks, giant trevally and dogtooth tuna swim in crystal-clear waters above a spectacular coral plateau.
Diving is possible all year round on Nosy Be, but conditions vary according to the season. The best period stretches from’April to December, The rainy season (January-March) offers warmer water but reduced visibility. Several PADI- and SSI-certified diving centres operate in Nosy Be, offering courses from beginner to instructor level. Visit first dives are available from the age of 8 and generally take place at Nosy Tanikely in optimum safety conditions. You can expect to pay around €60-80 for a first dive and €40-55 for an exploration dive.
You don't need to be a diver to enjoy Nosy Be's seabed. Visit snorkeling (snorkelling) is available at a number of sites, including Nosy Tanikely, Nosy Sakatia and even directly from Andilana beach. Mask, snorkel and flippers are all you need to observe turtles, tropical fish and coral in translucent waters.
