Nosy Komba, known as the island of lemurs, is one of the most popular excursions from Nosy Be. Just 30 minutes away by boat, this volcanic island covered in tropical forest offers total immersion in Madagascan nature.
Accessible by pirogue or motorboat from Andilana or Hell-Ville, Nosy Komba is a veritable sanctuary for Macaco lemurs, a species endemic to Madagascar.
The main attraction of Nosy Komba is its macaco lemurs (Eulemur macaco). These endemic primates, with black fur for the males and reddish-brown for the females, live freely on the island and are particularly sociable. Used to visitors, they won't hesitate to climb on your shoulders to grab a piece of banana - an unforgettable moment for young and old alike.
As well as lemurs, the island is also home to chameleons, Madagascar boas and numerous species of tropical birds.
The main village of Nosy Komba, Ampangorina, is an authentic place where you can discover local crafts. The locals carve wood (rosewood, ebony), embroider tablecloths and make shell jewellery. It's the perfect opportunity to bring back unique souvenirs and support the local economy.
The crystal-clear waters around Nosy Komba offer excellent opportunities to snorkeling. Coral reefs are home to a rich marine fauna: tropical fish, starfish, sea turtles and sometimes rays.
Excursions to Nosy Komba are generally made by car. day. Departure is in the morning by boat (about 30 minutes from Andilana). A typical day includes a visit to the village, an encounter with lemurs, snorkelling and a lunch of grilled fish on the beach. It costs around €25-40 per person.
The excursion can be combined with Nosy Tanikely (marine park) for a full day of exploration.
